FlowerCamp II Memories

Oh, the places you'll go!

Well, I believe my experiment with Hagler Farm
FlowerCamp was successful!

Both Sessions were spectacular! To watch groups of
ladies dive in and work on their own creation is truly
rewarding for all.

FlowerCamp will be back next September/October,
so jot that down on your 2010 calendar to look for
dates.

Here are a few more pics from both sessions!

Quick Update: Home Garden

Finally had a chance to step on the ladder and
secure the Tomato Teepees with $75 Twine (another story!).
Took a few pics for H garden update...

Pac Choi below growing nicely. Ready to transplant to
more permanent spot.
Sweet potatoes vining everywhere!
Some good looking bells with the sweet potatoes...

The tomatoes are finally coming along. English peas doing fabulous, they are so fun to watch... Tied twine from pole to pole to support peas!

Harvested really unripe canteloupe from farm and bells from home. Bells should be red & yellow. Will wait to see change. They were too heavy for the plant, so I cut.
More beans!

Garden centers are packed with broccoli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts,
herbs, seeds....Get Busy!

New Finds at the Farm

FlowerCamp forces you to look outside and
see things quite differently, a twist to the
usual perspective.

I just returned home(again!)from the farm
(someone forgot some things, not me)and
took a different way back to the "main road".
Actually enjoyed a bit of "muddin" along the way!

Of course, goldenrod is blooming like crazy, but
so is solidaster, wild liatris, and some things I'll
need to I.D. with Wildflower Book. No need to pay the
grocery store big bucks for something that came from
another country and has been refrigerated for
who knows how long!

What a great time to gather everything that's blooming,
except ragweed, and bring inside, on the porch, or share
with a friend...pics next.

FlowerCamp Memories...

The first session of FlowerCamp is complete.
It was definitely a day of
Flowers Fellowship and Fun!

I have just arrived home so
thought I would post these great pics...

It all started with a "Red Zinnia Clipper"...

I explained the "stategy" for the morning. Some went straight
for the flower field...
Others stayed on the porch to begin their designs!
Still others took the opportunity to clip a
few for tonite's party at home!!

Some finishing touches...

A BEAUTIFUL finish for all!
There are still a few spots
left for Session II of FlowerCamp...Check out August
blog for details on FlowerCamp. Directions mailed with
registration information!!

Flower Camp Excitement! Session I Prep

This being the diary of a gardener, I am posting some of the
prep work involved in my first FlowerCamp!

(pic1 of rain soaked oriental basil, pic2 clipped & going to farm)
The car is loaded with food, buckets, clippers, baskets...everything

(hopefully!) necessary for a successful FlowerCamp...even Gizmo!

There aren't many things better then being out in the middle of nowhere,

no distractions, to focus on creating something of beauty...

A friend is loading up with me this afternoon to drive to the farm.
We will set up tables, buckets of flowers and greenery, and pray for,
at worst, a misty day tomorrow..
Campers will arrive around 11am, have a fun jewelry session,

design something amazing, eat lunch/dessert and head home...

will keep you posted...

Gentle Nudge. Fall Reminders

hello all.

this season is zooming by. are we getting older?

just a few reminders for all of us (zone 7/8)
as we are headed for fall(hopefully).

* plant veggie seeds...lettuce, radish, carrots(see 8/24 post)
sam thought this pic was ridiculous! my box from Johnny's Seeds...
i was too excited.

* harvest your basil, put in a vase inside, not refrigerator!
get ready to make PESTO...

* order larkspur, poppy and wildflower seeds to plant Oct/Nov

* think about trees and perennials to plant when it's cooler

* scour the garden stores for seeds and plants

* too early for pansies, don't be tempted!

* use beautiful grasses, greens, pyracantha and goldenrod blooming
on roadsides for arrangements...it's really ragweed that
makes most of us sneezy!
eggplant from home garden!

next post on ragweed vs. goldenrod..gotta get the ragweed out of my car!

Blessings from the garden.

Late Summer Update...home garden

With FlowerCamp coming up and kids zooming here and there, it's
amazing that what I am growing at home is still alive! Shot a few pics
over the weekend...

The purple flower is from the sweet potato vine. This would
not be the ornamental sweet potato vine, but the veggie/fruit
type. Is sweet potato a fruit or veggie? Must ask my smarty
kids! Do know, though that both morning glory and sweet potato
are in same Family/genus!

Bell peppers, yellow and red, awaiting color change...Tomatoes
hanging out to ripen a bit more...

Last pic is the Pac Choi I planted from seed, before and after pics.
