Davidson Fine Arts Clean Up Day 1

One of the interesting facts about becoming a
"Master Gardener" is you are asked to help with
many projects! The Davidson Fine Arts Grounds
Beautification project is going to be interesting.
With all the budget cuts, of course there is no
funding for ongoing maintenance on public school
grounds. So we have parent volunteers (through PTO)
and students working (one step at a time!) to get
ths property where it can be maintained.
We will get there!

'Shrooms...

Perfect day for working on the grounds of my kids' school,
Davidson Fine Arts. My mission: " one of the top
schools in the state of Georgia should have better looking grounds".

To the point...

A unique suprise today while weeding and planting pansies.
Lactarius indigo ("milky blue"). We thought it was some of the student's
pottery showcased in the flower beds, so we ignored it until
one "weeder"actually touched it!

According to the University of Florida Extension, these mushrooms
are not common, grow under oak trees, and are completely edible.
Not me!

Fall Minus SpunkyPunkins

Most of you know I grow and sell the most Bee-utiful pumpkins!
This year we scrapped the fight with birds and deer. Not one
Spunky Punkin to grace even my front porch!

Thanks for all the calls/requests. Next year I'll be camped out
for 2 weeks in the field...Locked & Loaded.

Pics of years past...

Patrick's Paperwhites

Most of you know about my garden buddy, Kris Gordon.
Her grandson, Patrick Chance (6 years old) was diagnosed about
3 years ago with Neuroblastoma, a childhood cancer.

Patrick's website, www.Pressonfund.org, details the disease & research
that is needed for a cure.

Kris began selling paperwhites, wrapped and ready for gifting,
2 years ago to raise money for PressOn.
Last year, I bought one for each of my kids' teachers.
It is magnificent to watch the paperwhites or the Amaryllis
bulbs grow during the winter season...

Kris gave me an order form just in case some local readers are interested.
The Amaryllis above produced at LEAST 6 blooms last winter before I planted
the bulb in my home garden...

Needless to say, each teacher will get one again this year!

If you are interested, I'll forward your order...

Narcissus: $15 pot of 3 bulbs wrapped & ribboned
Amaryllis: $20 one large bulb wrapped & ribboned

The bulbs will be delivered to you in November !
Email me to order & check to "Press On"...
