Alone

Last night I had the place to myself so,  I sat on the computer to finish up pricing for 2 weddings in addition to ordering seeds for the farm...I also printed out this LIST for Dahlias that grow well in our heat...I will experiment with dahlias in the Home Garden this year as the soil in my raised beds is PERFECT!

Here are the lucky winners!
Envy- 10" to 12" bloom

Cherokee Beauty 10"  to 12" bloom

Hollyhill Electra- 8"to 10" bloom
CG Nordic 6"to 8" bloom, 6 feet tall

The reason I chose deeper corals and reds is because they will bloom late summer/fall. Perfect for FlowerCamp...thinking about you girls!

I also read the Dahlia Society of Georgia's instructions for growing in Georgia....Gosh, I'll have to spray. Weekly. I'll give them a shot, but I am not a fan of finicky plants.

Farm Wrap Up

Hagler Farm Weekend Wrap

My first bouquet for summer! Added some new varieties of zinnias
this year, and experimenting with celosia and broomcorn...

No doubt, pink is a favorite!

Ms N. makes a fine farm hand! Planted about 10 hills of white pumpkins.
This is an experiment as most "specialty" pumps don't do well in south
georgia heat & humidity!
Will have a variety for FlowerCamp in September/October.

Honey bees are in at the farm, too! Looking
forward to fresh honey and lots of pollinated
pumps!

Memorial Day Weekend List

I have a country house full of teens and
lots of work to do this weekend...

* Prep work for Pumpkins ....planting date is
to be determined by the state of the garden
this weekend... possibly June 5th, but
definitely no later than June 12th...

* Determine war zones and techniques against
deer, armadillo, turkeys, etc...any suggestions
would be greatly appreciated!

* Weed, weed, weed flower beds...

* Clean up bee hive and ready for new bees!

* Plant more zinnias, sunflowers. All prep

In the meantime, I'll be cooking, cleaning, and
visiting the "country cannibal" in town. Will report!

Flower Camp 2010

FlowerCamp is about experiencing flowers, fun, and fellowship.
Surrounded by 180 acres of Southern Pines, Campers will experiment
with fresh flowers, greens and grasses to create their own unique fall designs.

FlowerCamp stimulates the artistic spirit for beginning and experienced designers. Campers are guided by good natured designers and Master Gardeners.

Not only is FlowerCamp for your enjoyment, but it is a method of cultivating your creative perspective.

Here are some details about your morning at FlowerCamp:
Camp begins at 11am & ends at 2pm.

  • Directions will be mailed to you. It takes one hour from Augusta to get to Camp.

  • Dress comfortably. Tennis shoes, long pants, layers with sweat jacket or sweater depending on weather. May want to wear a hat.

  • You will have access to a cabin with a full kitchen, restrooms and plenty of rocking chairs and places to take a break!

  • There are no phones at FlowerCamp. Please bring a cell phone if you need to.

Registration is $50 per Camper and includes all materials, sumptuous lunch and
refreshments. Dates available for Camp 2010: September 25th and October 2nd
with only 15 spots available each session! Registration is taking place now, don't be disappointed- be early!

I have a few people on a "during the week" list. If I have 10 to register, we'll do it on Thursday, September 30th...

FlowerCampers will go home equipped to confidently plan a cutting garden and design a creative arrangement.

Please email Mary Louise Hagler at mlchgarden@comcast.net for more information
or specific questions!

FlowerCamp Memories...

The first session of FlowerCamp is complete.
It was definitely a day of
Flowers Fellowship and Fun!

I have just arrived home so
thought I would post these great pics...

It all started with a "Red Zinnia Clipper"...

I explained the "stategy" for the morning. Some went straight
for the flower field...
Others stayed on the porch to begin their designs!
Still others took the opportunity to clip a
few for tonite's party at home!!

Some finishing touches...

A BEAUTIFUL finish for all!
There are still a few spots
left for Session II of FlowerCamp...Check out August
blog for details on FlowerCamp. Directions mailed with
registration information!!
Blessings from the Garden.
see you
