Home Garden Update

Can't believe we are talking "Fall Gardening".
Hope you read this week's post on what to plant for the Zone 7/8 area.

Here is an update on the Home Garden...
Planted 2 flats of Pac Choi, a chinese cabbage. Smaller version of Bok Choi.
Once again, I am testing more smelly organic fertilizer. Pictured below, Pac

Choi with a bottle of "Neptune's Seaweed & Fish" fertilizer! Gizmo is crazy!

These are sweet potatoes. Lookin' good, too! Though pretty, they are "eating" sweet potatoes, not ornamental...

The red & yellow bells will be green til they turn...

More Beans! "Yard Long", we'll see.
Eggplant looks good.

Paw Paw helped trim the pine teepees(above) up so I could hammer them into the ground. They are 2x2x8. Toms already looking good!

I'd love to hear about your garden.
See you .

Mammogram...

Hey

By now, I've gone totally over the top with the whole Mammogram thing.

Skip this post if you're not interested.

This morning I experienced my first mammogram at my Ob/Gyn's office.

I've postponed this baseline screening for 4 years
mainly because of the scary stories I've heard.
Yes, I am an RN, should know better, and all, but look...I am a chicken!

It was all fine. I was so tickled with myself
that I picked all my pink Zinnias, put them in a "water tube"
tied with a pink ribbon and a great quote from Eleanor Roosevelt.
I passed these out to my exercise class this evening and the girls at PHC.

After all, I am supposed to be a good role model!
Blessings from the Garden.

Get Busy!

Time has a way of slipping up on me!
According to the UGA calendar for
Vegetable Planting in our area,
we need to put some things in the ground!
(Pictured is early "fall garden" 6 toms,
3 bells, 1 eggplant, sweet potatoes)

As of today, I've not seen any veggie transplants for fall.
Go ahead, look at this list, make your
own list and you will be ready to buy when transplants come in.

Also, check out Johnny's Select Seeds, Seeds of Change,
and Kitchen Garden online. Lowe's on Peach Orchard Rd.
carries a variety of seeds--lettuce, beets, carrots,radish...

Seeds to Buy
beets
carrot
cucumber & squash(no later than 8/31)
lettuce
radish
spinach
turnips
chard
chinese cabbage

Transplants
broccoli
cauliflower
cabbage
collards
kale
mustard greens

Experiment with this list. Check the veggies you like. One source states that 6-12 broccoli plants will be enough for a family. I am starting with 6 plants.

We love beets, I've ordered "golden" beets and regular "red" beets from Johnny's. Play with different varieties of the veggies to add color to your plate this fall/winter!

Here is my list from Johnny's Select Seeds. I wait patiently by the mailbox!
golden beets, ruby red chard, easter egg radish, mokum carrot, de cicco broccoli,
bonsai pak choi, gypsy broccoli
Get Busy!
Blessings from the Garden.

red noodles

You would think the only thing I am growing this summer is BEANS!
The 'Red Noodle' beans are a real treat to watch growing over the arbor,
but even better as a veggie on my plate!

Above you see a pic of the 'Red Noodle' on the arbor, they are at least a foot long and dark purple. The vine grows very rapidly,
and there are always long beans hanging down from the arbor!
Below with olive oil, garlic, salt and peppa.

Recommend these for next year, and I will probably post more about these fabulous BEANS!

A Perfect Ending...

What a great ending to an Augusta Council of Garden Clubs meeting!
Let me clarify by saying that new President Pat Hathaway
was on time and to the point. Just the way most of us busy ladies like it!

Hostess Doris Blalock's adorable side garden is a show stopper,
especially my friend the frog...(click on photo to see up close!)

thanks Doris!
see you

farm. friends. flowers.

We spent the past 24 hours with our friends John and Mary Louise (yes, there is another one!) and thier 4 kids...There is something to be said about no distractions. Our mission was to relax, cook, cut flowers, weed. Ended up doing all that plus John helped Robert with the tractor!

Two cool dudes. One large catfish! A dip in the "pool"...

Zinnias are coming up great! ML cutting her share!

Check in for FlowerCamp details and Wrockin'Wreath class.

Beans(contd.)...the more you eat 'em, the more ...

You watch thier color change right before your very eyes!

(before)

Ok. So I am a little loopy about all the beans growing at home, but who knew?

Those beautiful (before pic) purple beans would have magical properties! Like Burgandy Okra, they turn back to thier "normal" color (after pic) when cooked...
(after)
A little EVOO(thnx Rachel.) and some garlic...tasty!
Are you growing beans?
see you
